Albatross History-1978 Four out of four events and golden Holton
Albatross History-1978 The club divers had started to compete in “Meets” organised between diving clubs. The first one was against Merton School of Diving and Trampolining, with Star Diving Club also invited. Held at Guildford Reading Divers held their own and came back home with four titles.
County Championships saw our divers also successfully defend their titles. Reading had a clean sweep of the titles. Carolyn Knollys won the older age group plain diving. Picture top
Barry Taplin was yet another newcomer to Reading Divers coming in at second place in the County Plain Diving. Diana Seward also dived to second place, as did Paul Watson in his age group.
The picture bottom right shows how the Reading Diving Display Team had expanded. This picture shows the girls team. I don’t know where the boys were at the time!
New names were beginning to make their mark, using poolside during display training, to add to the spectacle. The Display was a leveller in the club when they all came together.
