Scanning the list A-Z below may find any Lido you may recognise or your favourite, and resurrect some remarkable memories and reminiscences! These “jewels in the sun” or so it seemed, were at the time a paradise for many families, and for many, to take a dip into the blue sparkling waters – or floodlit waters – for a romantic rendezvous, most likely lasting for life!

I hope you find your way around these once
blue sparkling waters!

Finding Lidos
A story before Thames Lido Today!

Why my passion and Lido Fever

I started reminiscing and compiling  in the early 90s. Thus there are older dates on the acknowledgements page

Blue sparkling waters - Lido Passion - image

Born into a swimming family, the competitive side of swimming and diving in various pools was enjoyed. I remember with much affection the wonderful visits with my parents around the blue sparkling waters of  the seaside lidos, and having such fun with much happiness.
As time wore on realisation dawned that some of these favourite swimming and splashing haunts were slowly disappearing, and there was much nostalgia discovering this. Comfort was added to these feelings by going around physically, and carrying out research.  This was stretched from the old days to present day and exercised an acute sense of curiosity. PCs and the internet were not the common “must have” necessity of the day then.

About Author
Received a Reading Lifetime Achievement Award. Mainly for the sport of diving competitively, and years of coaching through to International,  and getting it “all going” in Reading; plus writing on “Lost Lidos” and…campaigning for the Kings Meadow Baths, now Thames Lido. Have written about the well known personalities that lived in a road in the days of the grand houses, horses and carriages and domestic staff, now apartment city and all gone. I enjoy giving talks about my interests. blue sparkling waters - Anne at the Lido - image

Love my family, (all water babies), and my Maltese pooch who actually swims quite well. I like writing about my passions which includes Lost Lidos, the Sport of Board Diving,  Building a Diving Club, my Diving Days, and Heritage generally. Had as spell of learning to play Boogie (I’m not good), and now having a go at some fiction writing for two “big” special boys
