Clacton Pool Butlins brought lots of fun

“Sleepy Shores” by Johnny Pearson was played at 07.00

…to rouse you for the day!

Clacton pool Butlins  fitted into a very popular location for a camp site. It nurtured many of the stars today, and it was filled to capacity most years. Indeed most of the memories, videos and literature portrays slightly more than the other camps. But only just!

OUTCOME: Butlins Clacton was the second Butlins Camp to be closed. Clacton Pool Butlins was the core of the camp. This was a shock announcement. In 1983 it had unfortunately made no profit over the last three years and it was decided it would take considerable investment to bring it up to the standards of modern times. It was eventually sold to a developer after many other visions for the site, and is now completely covered with housing, in sympathetic style to the former site, using much timber in its construction.

A very interesting historical account leading to it’s demise found here, plus the bonus of more camp information.
