Kingsbury Swimming Pool – Roe Green Park – 1939
The Pool Opening 1939 saw display of floating and fancy swimming and diving took place, and the participants from Highgate Diving Club and Polytechnic Swimming Club were presented with Souvenirs by the Mayoress.

Kinsbury Swimming Pool was to witness a wonderful opening programme. During the afternoon music was provided by Eric Gordon and his Band together with the Wembley Silver Band.
Wembley believed in progress – and foresight. Kingsbury Swimming Pool enveloped both serving a population of 130,000.

The setting was amidst ornamental gardens with backdrops of grassland and trees. Very spacious it was a facility for young and old alike, with sunbathing terraces, cafe with dance floor and children’s paddling pool.
It was a place for lazy lounging, thrilling competitions in summer and social occasions in winter.

The pool sadly, after such a good start, had a chequered career with unscheduled closures and unpredictable summer weather. Unfortunately it declined as a popular bathing venue.

OUTCOME: It was officially closed in 1988 and there were plans to turn it into a multi – complex leisure centre.

Bids were made but eventually the pool was demolished completely in 1991. There was a covenant on the land that it was only to used as recreation facilities for local people. The pool site has been replaced by green pitches and tennis courts nearby.

What a shame it vanished. Younger generations of today would never know they are playing on a once watery haven.

Born and raised on the bungalow Estate near Church lane.
Kingsbury pool was a very important part of my early teens. I met my first boyfriend, we were together nearly 3 years. Met up with him 50 years later and stayed in touch until he sadly, died.
The best memorie; early 1950’s.

I lived in Stag Lane and went to Tylers Croft School (now Kingsbury High) in 1953 and was taken to Kingsbury Swimming pool by the school PE teacher, a Mr Sachs, who allowed all the swimmers to go to the deep end to have fun while lining all us non-swimmers up at the shallow end then walking behind us and pushing us in. I was absolutely terrified and went back to the pool on my own during the summer holidays and taught myself to swim so never had to endure that experience again! I also went their often with my family and later with my mates and had some good times there. I also remember the water feeling cold but forgot about it after a while!
Schooled at Kingsbury Green Primary and Kingsbury High Secondary. Born in long-gone Kingsbury Maternity Hospital. Didn’t go often to pool with mates, but often went with mum in the sixties as a small child. Loved going with mum, but used to find the pool water very cold. Always shivering as I was a thin kid. With the loss of its cinema and its swimming pool, the old ‘village’ feel of post-war Kingsbury, died. RIP my childhood home.
I used to go to Kingsbury swimming pool most days after school.
I loved every minute of it.
We attended sports events there too.

I spent many memorable days in that lovely open air pool- learnt to dive and do back flips into the water and competed in local swim galas arranged between the areas Schools. I was at Preston manor. Devastate when I learned that they closed it. It’s super size was exceptional- I’ve never been to a bigger pool.
Revamping of the smaller Vale Farm to make that indoor too as well as the large multi sport complex with good sized indoor pool and outdoor pool at Harrow Leisure centre probably finished it off. But nothing replaced it’s scale, beautiful open feel and pristine condition- sadly missed.

Lived off Roe green in early 60’s, went to the Lidp many times, some history should be enhanced not demolished
I saw tge hermits while swimming in the pool. How cool was that. Not just the water temperature.
I was born in the the bungalow in Kingsbury Swimming pool in 1945 .The bungalow was situated at the top of the steps .I lived there with my mother father sister and brother.My dad was the superintendent of the pool .
Spent my summer holidays and quite a few evenings after school at the pool. In 1969 I had my wedding reception in the cafe. Lovely memories
Used to go in the 70s when we visited family.We lived in Cumbria use to have a fantastic time
I oftern went to this pool through the early ’60s. I was there when some TV show was filming Herman’s Hermits and a few other bands in the mid 60s. Many a summer holiday was spent at the pool by my mates and me, it was a cheap, healthy, fun filled time for us.
