Albatross History – 1974.  Away to the Channel Islands

Albatross History 1974 – A hoard of medals were brought back from Crystal Palace thanks to Helen Wright; Nigel Townsend; Ian Primett;  Paul Carter; Andrew Dixon; Paul Holton and Suzanne Smith. A mix of gold ; silver and high placed pendants. The competitions were the plain diving competitions where the utmost control has to be mastered.  Ian Primett scored well here for his silver. A competition where there is a  mix of varying dives where diving in all directions with somersaults and twists have to be learned, tiny Suzanne Smith scored a gold.
At County level Suzanne (9)  – in for experience only,  came up against L. Twining from Slough and won the bronze medal in the under 17 years championship!

Away to the Channel Islands – Jersey
Albatross History – 1974. A team of divers were chosen to represent the town in a friendly match against a Jersey team.  Our team who sailed away consisted of three National Age group divers, Karen Ward (15); Paul Holton (11) and Suzanne Smith (10). Seen holding their well deserved pennants. The rest of the team were Southern Counties level divers Lynne Crowther (18); Veronica Latto (17); Andrew Dixon (13);  Paul Carter (8) and Ian Primett (12).  They had the most utmost experience of “away team” diving,  and what a team and what an experience for them all.  They dived into the cold sea from the diving stage,  performing their complex moves.  They were beaten but acquired their revenge later, in a return match at Central Pool.

County Championships saw 7 Gold medals scored by Penny Herring;  Ian Primett (also scoring a silver); Helen Wright x 2;  Paul Holton x 2;  Suzanne Smith. Marianne Green (silver).  We blew them away!
